Now that we’re on the brink of the big iPad 3 reveal, it’s time for rumors about what will come from Apple later this year. Thanks to some leaked documents from Samsung’s investment bank, rumors are beginning to revolve around the idea of a 7-inch iPad to be released sometime in Q3 of 2012. Additionally, flexible AMOLED panels may be included in the design for future versions of the tablet.
Analyst JungHoon Chang predicted in the leaked documents, dated December 2011, that Apple would release the iPad 3 in Q1 of 2012 and a 7-inch “iPad mini” sometime in Q3. He also mentioned the potential use of flexible panels in future generations of the iPad, given that Samsung Mobile Display can increase both production and screen resolution.
However, rumors about a smaller version of the iPad have circulated before and generally been shot down thanks to comments from the late Steve Jobs who pooh-poohed the idea back in a 2010 conference call. According to Jobs, “The reason we won’t make a 7-inch tablet isn’t because we don’t want to hit that price point, it’s because we think the screen is too small to express the software.”
So, what do you all think? Would you be psyched about a 7-inch iPad? Would it put your plans of purchasing an iPad 3 on hold? Or is it all a bunch of baloney?
