iPhone Rumors: The iPhone 5S Will Have A 13MP Camera, A Fingerprint Scanner, And Could Launch In June

In case you’ve been living under a rock recently, the iPhone rumor mill is already spinning at full speed. Whether the next iPhone is actually be called the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 6, or just “iPhone”, we aren’t sure. If Apple follows previous naming conventions, we’d expect an iPhone 5S.

Regardless of what it ends up being called, a leaked document from Japanese carrier KDDI says the next iPhone will feature a 13MP camera and a fingerprint scanner for enhanced security. It’ll also run iOS 7, which we expect to hear about at Apple’s WWDC conference June 10-14. Even better, the leaked document says KDDI will start taking pre-orders for the next iPhone on Thursday, June 20th.

If we look at previous iPhone launches, pre-orders for the iPhone 5 started at 12:01am PST on Friday, September 14th, 2012. The phone was available on shelves one week later, on Friday, September 21. Going back to the iPhone 4S, it was much the same story: pre-orders started at 12:01am PST on Friday, October 7, 2011 and the phone was available on shelves one week later, on Friday, October 14. It isn’t until you look back at the iPhone 4 (released in 2010) that you find a deviation from this pre-order / release schedule of pre-orders starting on a Friday and general availability in-stores the following Friday. The iPhone 4 was available for pre-order from Apple on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 and wasn’t available on the shelves until Thursday, June 24th.

As always, we’ll find out soon enough. Do you think the next iPhone will have a 13MP camera? A fingerprint scanner? A larger screen? Let me know on Twitter and I’ll share some of your responses: @mbchp.
