When you go to the effort of publishing a first-rate blog post, you want it to be seen, read, and shared. Unless you are a seasoned blogger with a sizable audience, you likely have to put some effort in making your blog discoverable.
There are several ways of getting your blog seen, such as using SEO-optimized keywords and submitting posts through blog networks. In this post, I will give suggestions of ways that I have had success promoting blogs through social media.
Facebook: There are several ways to share a post on Facebook. The easiest way is post the URL on your timeline, news feed or fan page. Some RSS services offer a “subscribe to Facebook” option. A popular service for blog post syndication on Facebook is called NetworkedBlogs.
Twitter: Twitter is great for getting the word out about your blog quickly and concisely. I suggest tweeting the title of the post, a shortened URL, and then add a hashtag about the topic of your post. Some WordPress plug-ins can be automated to send out a tweet as soon as a post is published.
Social Bookmarking Sites: What is a social bookmarking site? It is a site where you can save, share and tag URLs from around the Internet to make it easier for other people to find. Although it is not best practice to bookmark every post, it is a good way to promote an occasional one. Popular bookmarking sites are Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious, and Reddit.
Social Sharing Plug-Ins: If you’re using WordPress, there are many different plug-ins you can use to get the word out about your post. My personal favorite is SexyBookmarks. You can choose from dozens of sites to display (including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and many others), making it easy for your readers to share your content.
