So for a while there, Siri was informing iPhone owning askers that the Lumia was the “best smartphone ever”.
The “ever” is a very important addition to the question. Siri was already programmed to make cute little remarks when asked about the “best smartphone”. But when the user added “ever” to the question, Siri pulled up WolframAlpha on the Nokia Windows Phone handset.
The Lumia has an average score of 5 out of 5, and the 900 was from a sheerly information based standpoint had the highest rating.
Apple ‘fixed’ it
As of Monday, asking Siri for the “best smartphone ever” now returns the same humorous results, including, “You’re kidding, right?”
Siri’s little quirks have a brought up some pretty ridiculous concerns. Remember when Siri wouldn’t give results for birth control or abortion clinics but would help you find an escort service?
“Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information, and while it can find a lot, it doesn’t always find what you want,” Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said. “These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone, it simply means that as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better and we will in the coming weeks.”
