T-Mobile Now Offers $0 Down Payment On ALL Smartphones

Our friends over at Wireless Vision just tipped us off to a new Back to School promotion starting tomorrow, July 27th, at T-Mobile stores nationwide. Here’s the deal.

If you’re a “well qualified” customer, you can get any smartphone in T-Mobile’s current lineup for $0 down and equal monthly payments spread out over 24 months. Currently, most phones require a down payment around $100, then equal payments on the remaining balance.

Let’s look at a typical example of how this will play out.

We’ll pretend you’re on the Simple Choice $60 rate plan (unlimited talk & text + 2gb of 4G data). Say you select the brand new Sony Xperia Z. You go to the store and get your new phone and pay nothing that day. Instead, you’ll add payments of $24 to your monthly bill for the next 24 months (total of $579). Of course, you can always pay off the phone early. (These figures don’t include tax, so you should expect them to be a 6-10% higher depending on where you live.) The best part of all this: you’re not locked into a two-year contract. The guys over at Android Central created this table to show you the expected monthly payment for several of today’s most popular smartphones.

I’ve got to give it to T-Mobile: in taking the “uncarrier” approach and dramatically changing how they approach wireless service, they’re really making big strides. Once their 4G LTE network is further developed, I just might consider abandoning the Verizon ship. Well done, T-Mobile.
