Last Friday, Verizon announced a change to how and when you can upgrade your phone. Instead of letting you upgrade your device 20 months into your 24-month contract, you’ll now have to go the entire 2-year duration of your contract before being able to upgrade (with a discount). Verizon points out that at any time during your contract, you can upgrade your phone by paying full price, something most people can’t do.
Just this morning, I noticed they updated that announcement with a paragraph about a “Wireless Device Payment Plan” – something that suggests you’ll be able to split up the full-retail cost of a new device over several months worth of your monthly bill. No further details about the payment plan option are available yet, but I’ll update you when we find out more.
